Cry Out for Mercy

Cry Out for Mercy

God saves us, not ourselves. Therefore, we each are in great need of God’s abundant mercy.

The cry of mercy is a heartfelt cry of wanting nothing of our self-driven life and wanting only the life God has for us. It’s a cry that we are tired of following the dictates of our heart influenced by this world and want to completely follow God. It’s a cry to be governed through and through by God, and thus no longer to govern our own soul. This cry spews from our lips, when we understand the corrupted nature of our self-will and the death and filth it manifests and the perfection of God’s eternal life for us. It’s a desire to forsake all that separates us from God. It’s the response of seeing the truth of ourselves and God. It’s the response to tasting God’s love.

John 12:25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life

When we come to this point in our soul, a point of deeply and honestly wanting to forsake our self-driven life/soul (repentance) and follow God in every way, then it’s God who gives us a new spirit. He replaces the old corrupted nature with a nature that’s of Him. In a very real way, we (our self-driven soul) are crucified with Christ, in Christ and then filled with a new spirit like a new operating system. As we can’t birth ourselves into this physical world, we can’t birth ourselves into the spiritual one. It’s all God’s work in us.

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Some doctrines can be somewhat misleading on this point by putting salvation into the hand of people as if it is all their choice. Our part is to ask for mercy, for our self-driven life (flesh) to be crucified, and for God to have mercy and give us eternal life by giving us life through His eternal spirit. But He is the one who gives new life.

Christ died for our sins. He conquered sin and death of that self-driven life that we might be identified with Him in His death and be resurrected to a new eternal life as He was. Our part is to call out to God in mercy to ask for that resurrected life, as we willingly crucify our self-driven one. Galatians 2:20 We lay down our life. God raises us to eternal life as He raised Christ.

To gain the new, we have to let go of the old. But, it’s God who gives the new birth. He is our Father. It’s His doing not ours.

Testimony we are God’s

Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

This verse above is the testimony that we are truly born of God … the Spirit of Christ is in us. The Spirit of Christ desires the things of God. It longs for truth; loves the truth. It seeks to do God’s will above all else. It longs to obey God in all areas. It loves God and loves others in purity.

Hebrews 5:9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

How can you truly obey without abiding in the Bible being instructed by the Holy Spirit on what God desires of you in your life? This is much to important to simply rely on what others tell you God wants you to do.This new spirit is very real. You experience a change in how you operate, think, feel and what you desire. You let go of the self-will that has driven and directed your life since birth, and now you are directed by a new spirit from within. 2 Timothy 1:7

The time of the end is very close. Cry out for God’s mercy, repent (turn from self-will), and ask God for His life to consume yours.

  1. Wow, Rachel this is such a work of the Spirit. This is our cross to bear and you have shared such impactful scriptures here. The new Spirit and He is so faithful to hear and answer our cries of mercy. Thank you! This is a keeper and a message that needs to be internalized and shared!

    • Hi Tom, it’s such an important message … so important to truly and deeply understand and one I didn’t for years. I pray many gain this awareness.

  2. Rachel, what a wonderful post! You have brought great light to this hard issue. Are some destined for destruction simply because God didn’t choose them? Can we come to God on our own? Yes and no, which is a kind of a hard answer, but you have explained the tension and its balance beautifully. Yes, we can come to God on our own (as He calls us), but we come to beg Him to draw us into death and rebirth, not to make the step ourselves — as we are utterly incapable of doing it.

    Thanks!

    Love you, Sis

    • Hi Cindy – it is an interesting mix of us laying down our lives and God’s mercy … brings to mind the verse in Matthew that many are called but few are chosen … as well as Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

Many doctrines don’t clear protray what is truly happening on both sides.

  3. To cry out for mercy today is a wise move to make, given the sins of the world. Jesus came so that we may have grace. Events are dramatically change the way in which the future will take place. We must continue to pray and stay close to the word of God. We pray for your ministry and ask God to bless us all in Jesus name.

  4. Thank you Rachel for using your gift of teaching. You explain things is such a powerful way. God bless you and work through you in mighty ways.

  5. Very nice blog. Thanks for sharing these teachings.

Nice Rachel. God led me to go through and read Deuteronomy and Joshua recently with some things that He is doing in my life. In Deut. 2 and 3 Moses is detailing their travel and he mentions that they defeated the two kings, King Sihon of Heshbon and King Og of Bashan. Heshbon means to “plot, plan, contrive, forecast.” One of the definitions of Og means “long-necked” which has to do with self-determination and stubbornness. So, before the children of Israel could walk in and possess their promised land, they had to defeat self-determination and contriving. They had to rely on the Lord and follow His plan and will for their lives.

The same goes for us. We must come to the point where we will kill self-will and be God-willed. It can be done. It takes time fellowshipping with Him. One tool that I believe God has given us that is really powerful in helping us in this arena is fasting. When we fast and make it a lifestyle we learn to no longer serve the dictates of our flesh but the dictates of our spirit.

    • Hi Eric, I love what you shared from Deuteronomy … that whole journey of the Israelites is analogous to our individual journeys – and this is just one more aspect to add to that amazing word picture, thanks so much for sharing. I agree with you about fasting. There is something very powerful to relying solely on the Word of God and showing that through fasting when God calls us to it. It is an area I feel I’m still learning the depth of.

      • I’m still learning also. The Lord just had me on a fast for 7 days. It was awesome. Maybe I’ll do a blog post about it but would love to talk with you about what God has done with you while fasting and what you have learned.

      • Hi Eric – wow … I’d love to hear your experience; yes write a post on it. I’ll send you an email. 🙂

  7. Very good information being shared back and forth here. Fasting and prayer are very powerful tools in the Kingdom. Seeking relationship and your true identity are key. Obedience to EVERYTHING God tells you to do will bring with it God’s signs wonders and miracles! Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

    • Hi – how true … walking in obedience in love leads you down the paths of true life. Sometimes obedience is overlooked or in some things not seen as “that important” – but I’m finding it makes all the difference. God created us to operate and live in a way, when we live according to His ways our lives flourish as they were meant to.

  8. This is very helpful. I want a real relationship with The Father through His Son Jesus Christ. That is my Heart Cry.

  9. I truly need a broken heart and contrite spirit. I really need a deep heart felt cry of Repentance to God for living rebellious and sinful in the sight of God. I need to cry out for mercy. I need God to do a heart transfusion within me.

    • Hi Steven, this is what we all need, and you are blessed to “see” this for many are still blind to their need, thus they unknowingly hold onto their self in such a way that keeps them bound. A new heart is exactly what our heavenly Father is going to give us.
